Singapore is an island country of the Malay Peninsula in Southeast Asia. It is the fourth leading financial centre worldwide and it plays a major role in international finance. The port of Singapore is one of the five busiest ports in the world. It consists of a population of about 5 million. It has highly diverse population with a very strong history of immigration. It is said that up to 42% of the population are foreigners who work or study there. It is the second most densely populated country on earth, second only to Monaco.
The Economist Intelligence Unit ranks Singapore as having the best quality of life in Asia and eleventh in the world overall. After a short-term contraction in the final quarter of 2009, it became the fastest growing economy globally in the first two half of 2010. Its GDP growth at that time, being 17.9 percent.
As well as mainland Singapore, the country consists of 63 islands. Singapore is considered to have a tropical rainforest climate with no particular climate. Temperature will generally range from 22 degrees to 34 degrees and the country gets a lot of rainfall. The lowest temperature ever recorded there was 19.4 degrees so if you are somebody that hates the cold you could certainly do a lot worse. The country is a popular tourist destination with over 10 million people choosing to visit the country in 2007. It is likely to become more popular in the future as in an effort to attract further tourists, gambling has recently been legalised.
